A fan in Mallorca who racially abused Vinicius Jr. was sent to prison

Real Madrid said Thursday that the fan who racially abused Real Madrid forward Vinicius Jr. and Villarreal player Samuel Chukwueze during two games at Mallorca last year has been found guilty and given a suspended jail sentence.

The attacker, who wasn’t named by the La Liga club, had his 12-month sentence put on hold after writing Vinicius a letter of apology and going through training on how to stop discrimination.

Video from the Mallorca vs. Real Madrid game showed fans calling the Brazilian player a monkey. He has made a point of speaking out against racism at Spanish football games.

The child who called Real midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni racial slurs in April has also said sorry and shown repentance, the club said. For one year, the young person will not be allowed in stadiums. They will also have to pay a fine and take part in educational events suggested by the prosecutor’s office.
