Pagers and walkie-talkies are not allowed on planes in Lebanon

Lebanese officials said Thursday that walkie-talkies and pagers could not be brought on planes from Beirut airport. This comes after thousands of these devices exploded during an attack this week that killed many Hezbollah members.

Talkies and pagers are not allowed until further notice, according to the Lebanese civilian flight directorate. Airlines that fly out of Beirut were told to tell their customers. The Lebanese state news service said that these kinds of devices could not be sent by air either.

More than 3,000 people were hurt when Hezbollah members’ pagers and walkie-talkies went off in two waves of attacks on Tuesday and Wednesday. At least 37 people were killed.

Lebanon and Hezbollah, an armed group backed by Iran, say the attack was done by Israel.

Israel hasn’t said who is to blame.

The Lebanese army said on Thursday that it was detonating pagers and other strange phones in controlled explosions in different places. It asked people to report any gadgets that seemed odd.

Israel and Hezbollah have been shooting at each other across the border between Lebanon and Israel for almost a year now. The conflict began after the Gaza war.
