Coach Jakirovic was fired by Dinamo Zagreb after their 9-2 loss to Bayern

Sergej Jakirovic, the manager of Dinamo Zagreb, quit the club on Thursday. He did this two days after his team’s shocking 9–2 loss to Bayern Munich, which was the most goals scored by a single team in a Champions League match.

Harry Kane scored four goals for Bayern, making him the highest-scoring English player in the history of the European Cup. Bruno Petkovic and Takuya Ogiwara scored goals for Croatia, but they weren’t enough to save them in their 6-0 loss at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday.

The 47-year-old Bosnian Jakirovic was named head coach of Dinamo in February 2023. He had previously been the coach of HNK Rijeka.

Last season, he led Dinamo to their 25th league win and the Croatian Cup. Sandro Perkovic, who works as a coach for Jakirovic, has been named caretaker boss.

“In these kinds of situations, the most important thing is to stay honest and put Dinamo’s needs first,” said Velimir Zajec, President of the club.

We need to make a good choice about the new coach now that things are going badly for Dinamo so that they can get back on track with wins.

“It was nice working with you, and Jakirovic made an impression on me as a good person.” I wish him the best of luck in his future work.”

Dinamo has 13 points and is in third place in the home league. On Saturday, they will be at Slaven Belupo. The next Champions League game for them is on Oct. 2 at home against AS Monaco.
