Cannabis worth 600,000 pounds was found, and a former Arsenal forward was charged

Former Arsenal and Ipswich Town forward Jay Emmanuel-Thomas has been charged after being nabbed by Scotland’s National Crime Agency (NCA) in connection with the seizure at Stansted Airport of 60 kg of cannabis worth £600,000 ($793,620).

The 32-year-old, who now plays for Greenock Morton in the second level of Scottish football, was arrested by NCA officers on Wednesday as part of an operation that was helped by Police Scotland.

“A man arrested by the National Crime Agency in Scotland yesterday in connection with the seizure of around 60 kilos of cannabis at Stansted Airport earlier this month has been charged,” the NCA said in a Thursday statement.

“Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, 33, of Cardwell Road, Gourock, was detained and questioned by NCA officers after drugs worth an estimated 600,000 pounds were detected in suitcases by Border Force officers on 2 September.”

Emmanuel-Thomas has been remanded in prison after being charged with bringing in “class B” drugs. He will probably go before the Carlisle Magistrates later today.

From Arsenal’s youth system, the English forward made just five starts for the club. He’s also played for Bristol City and Queens Park Rangers.

Border Force officers nabbed two women, ages 28 and 32, at Stansted earlier this month after finding about 60 kg of drugs in two suitcases that came on a flight from Bangkok.

The value of 1 dollar is 0.7560 pounds.
