Simeone has to be patient while Alvarez still gets used to Atletico

Diego Simeone, the manager of Atletico Madrid, stated on Wednesday that while he is pleased with Julian Alvarez’s integration into the team, he will continue to be patient with the Argentine striker.

The 24-year-old was one of Atletico Madrid’s several headline acquisitions, along with Conor Gallagher, Robin Le Normand, and Alexander Sorloth, when he left Manchester City for the Spanish team last month. According to media reports, the deal might be valued up to 95 million euros ($105.65 million).

In anticipation of the team’s Champions League debut against RB Leipzig on Thursday, Simeone believes Alvarez, who won the Copa America with Argentina in July, will score a lot of goals this season.

“(Alvarez) is a devout, diligent young man who undoubtedly has a great deal to offer us. However, he just returned from a summer vacation,” Simeone stated at a press conference.

“It was the fervor of “I have to start playing, I have to go with Argentina, I have to return,” that made people decide to leave or stay. It was quite demanding, but fortunately he is with a bunch of teammates who are highly effective and cognizant of the circumstances.

Since we are aware of and confident in his potential, we will always ask for more from him. With a 3-0 victory over Valencia the other day, he hopefully scored his first goal, the first of many to come.”

After spent over 200 million euros bolstering the club after a season devoid of championship hardware, Atletico Madrid fans will have high expectations this season, but manager Simeone is certain his team can succeed.

“I’m in my 12th year as a coach, and for Atletico supporters and the team, this has been a huge accomplishment. Big. Knowing the challenges and refusing to give up on the game (routine), we must rise to the occasion and demand more of ourselves,” the Argentine coach remarked.

“We are excited to participate in the Champions League once more. I can picture a stadium expending the energy needed to participate in this competition once more. I’m hoping that we can convey from underneath all of the zeal and vigor that this group has to offer.”

One dollar is equivalent to 0.8992 euros.
