According to Russia, Ukraine has initiated new endeavors to breach its Western border

Russia announced on Tuesday that it had successfully thwarted five additional attempts by Ukrainian forces to breach its frontier and enter the Kursk region. This brings the total number of reported border attacks to 26 in the past six days.

The largest foreign assault on Russia since World War Two was launched by Ukraine on August 6, when thousands of troops crossed the border into the Kursk region. The attack was backed by swarms of drones and heavy weaponry, including West-made arms.

On September 10, Russia initiated a significant counteroffensive against the Ukrainian forces in Kursk, propelling Kyiv’s forces back toward the Snagost River. In 2022, Russia deployed tens of thousands of troops into Ukraine.

However, Ukrainian forces have been attempting to breach the Russian border toward Veseloe and Medvezhe for approximately one week in an effort to intimidate the Russian counteroffensive, which is located approximately 15 km (9.3 miles) to the west of the primary theatre of action in Kursk.

“With the support of army aviation and artillery fire, five attempts by the armed forces of Ukraine to pierce the border of the Russian Federation in the direction of Veseloe and Medvezhe were repelled,” according to a statement issued by the Russian defense ministry.

The ministry reported that Russian forces were in the process of attacking Lyubimovka, Malaya Loknya, and numerous other settlements in Kursk.

Russian military bloggers reported that Ukraine had established a portion of its territory in the direction of Veseloe and Medvezhe, and that Russian forces were reclaiming the area and advancing on Lyubimovka.

In the war zone, both parties have implemented reporting restrictions that prevented Reuters from verifying battlefield accounts from either side.

Russia’s senior military officials were humiliated by Ukraine’s Kursk incursion, which exposed the vulnerability of their border defenses. However, President Vladimir Putin asserts that the incursion has facilitated Russia’s progress in eastern Ukraine.

Russian forces are encircling the town of Ukrainsk, and they have added territory in eastern Ukraine at the fastest tempo in approximately two years, according to open-source maps and data.

The war in Ukraine is currently in its most perilous phase to date, as Ukraine is requesting permission from core NATO members to send Western missiles deep into Russia.
