Milan manager Fonseca emphasizes that there is no margin for mistake when facing Liverpool in the Champions League

Manager Paulo Fonseca of AC Milan stated on Monday that his team’s defense must be flawless when they play Premier League team Liverpool at San Siro in their Champions League opener.

After winning one of their last four games, the seven-time European champion Milan are currently ranked ninth in Serie A. They will host Liverpool on Tuesday.

Liverpool, who had comfortably won their first three Premier League games without giving up under new manager Arne Slot, were shocked 1-0 at home by Nottingham Forest on Saturday to move up to fourth place in the English premier league.

“In my opinion, Liverpool is among the best teams in Europe. They are strong individuals with a good game. You cannot make mistakes defensively; we have to be flawless,” Fonseca said reporters.

“I see it as a chance to demonstrate our advancement. It will inspire us to take on new challenges and demonstrate our value.

“I have no doubt that it will; we always value the support of our fans. We want to feel their love because that is how things will be tomorrow.”

On Sunday, Milan takes on rivals Inter Milan in Serie A, and the Portuguese player stayed silent regarding any possible roster changes.

Ismael Bennacer, a defensive midfielder for Milan, is currently having surgery on his right calf, which is a blow. The projected recovery time for the 26-year-old Algerian international is four months.

We have a lot of games, and I have to consider each one. I can’t forget that there is the derby on Sunday, but tomorrow is the most significant because it’s the next one,” Fonseca stated.

Alvaro Morata, Milan’s newest acquisition, anticipated a challenging matchup with Liverpool.

After signing a four-year contract with Milan in July, the 31-year-old Spanish striker made his La Liga debut with Atletico Madrid. He has scored once in his two outings for Milan.

“It will be a great challenge, we have so many different players and we have to fix so many mechanisms, only time will tell,” Morata stated.

“It’s unusual that we play right away; ever moment you join at a club like this, you dream of playing with Liverpool in the Champions League—it may even be a semifinal. There’s a ton of desire. These are the contests that define the annals of sports.”
