Iraqi oil minister is stable following surgery in the United States, according to an official

Hayan Abdel-Ghani, the Iraqi oil minister, is currently in a stable state following emergency cardiac surgery he underwent during an official visit to the United States, according to an oil ministry official who is a member of the Iraqi delegation.

Early this week, Abdel-Ghani traveled to the United States with the purpose of attracting American corporations to participate in Iraq’s energy industry.

An oil ministry official informed Reuters that he became unwell and was urgently transported to the hospital during the journey, where he had surgery to insert a catheter into his heart.

“The patient has been discharged from the operating theatre and is currently in a stable condition,” stated the official.

Initial attempts to contact Abdel-Ghani and other oil ministry officials for comment were unsuccessful.
