The Role of Pharrell in Facilitating Snoop Dogg’s Rap About Women with Respect Rather Than Derogatory Language (Exclusive)

The ‘Voice’ coach reveals the process by which he underwent a change in his viewpoint and approach to his lyrics throughout the middle of his career.

Taking sound guidance is of utmost importance.

Such is a lesson that Snoop Dogg claims he has acquired throughout the years, and one that has proven crucial to his enduring success in the music business.

In this week’s cover story, the renowned rapper and cherished Olympics commentator, aged 52, expresses his desire to continuously improve and be in the company of individuals that encourage him to achieve even greater success. “Even if that implies that I am not the most intelligent individual in the room, that does not offend me as it implies a greater opportunity for learning rather than mere instruction.”

One individual from whom he acquired vital knowledge was his friend and successful music producer, Pharrell Williams. Upon reflecting on his career in the late 1990s, Snoop came to the realization that he was constrained by maintaining a criminal image and attempting to please the surrounding community. “I had a predetermined objective that I was striving for and had little space for expansion.”

Ready for a fresh invigoration and musical style, he embarked on his own journey by establishing Doggystyle Records in 1999. Upon collaborating with Williams on his 2002 album titled Paid tha Cost to Be da Boss, he also embraced a fresh outlook on women. The concept for his 2003 song “Beautiful” originated from Williams.

“He compelled me to perform that song.” While I would not have ventured into creating a song of such nature during the 1990s, he tapped into a previously unexplored aspect of my musical abilities. “He expressed, ‘You have been engaging in rapping about women, using derogatory language such as h–s, and they are still in love with you,'” Snoop recalls of his previous insensitive lyrics. Williams also questioned, “When will you allocate time to demonstrate your love and appreciation for them?”

It is a question that deeply resonated. “I needed to contemplate,” proclaims Snoop. “I was like, ‘Damn. I tend to be quite critical of them. Let me attentively listen to you. What action should I take?

During the recording sessions, Williams began enumerating every female member of his family. I thought, ‘I understand… synchronize the rhythm appropriately.’ Subsequently, I have adopted a more respectful attitude towards my queen, refraining from using condescending language to express my sentiments towards women.

In recent times, Snoop Dogg has adopted a highly focused approach towards his voice. “I nurture my voice,” he asserts, referring to his frequent use of tea. “It does not aim to conform to any other individual.” It is simple me expressing my true self, and I believe it is reassuring to your auditory senses to know that it has remained unchanged for many years, consistently relaxed and smooth, and enjoyable to listen to. Regardless of the intense nature of the music, it consistently served as the appropriate instrument.

Now, in his role as a coach on The Voice, he is imparting all of his sagacity to a newly emerging cohort of musicians.

“I intend to become a coach with meticulous attention and empathy, with integrity and veracity,” he states, “and to some extent will draw upon my own personal experiences as guiding principles for my coaching approach.”
