Chelsea intends to address the Chilwell matter, according to Maresca

Chelsea is actively seeking resolutions for Ben Chilwell, who was previously listed for sale but failed to get a club. Manager Enzo Maresca stated on Friday that the defender may resume training with the first squad as the transfer window has now ended.

The Italian manager, upon assuming control prior to this season, excluded England internationals Chilwell and Raheem Sterling off the roster of high-profile players.

Although Sterling was loaned to Arsenal on the final day of the transfer window, Chelsea is unable to release Chilwell, who was acquired in 2020 for approximately 50 million pounds ($65.62 million) but has not played a single minute this season.

“Currently, Ben is likely the sole individual who remains present.” “We intend to engage in a meeting with him and jointly identify a resolution,” Maresca informed reporters prior to Saturday’s visit to Bournemouth.

Probably, he will return to our training session… His training is being conducted separately because the intention was for him to depart.

Nevertheless, as he failed to find a resolution, it is likely that he will commence his training with our team. Currently, if we make the decision, he will become one of the players.

Although Chilwell played a key role in the London team’s Champions League victory, the 27-year-old left back has faced challenges in maintaining a consistent position since sustaining a knee ligament damage in late 2021.

Chilwell’s position in the hierarchy declined after Marc Cucurella joined in 2022. Over the previous two seasons, he incurred hamstring and knee problems, which restricted him to only 13 league matches in the previous season.

Chelsea have accumulated four points from their initial three league matches, placing them in 11th place in the rankings. Maresca remarked that his young team is progressing well but must strike a harmonious equilibrium between their technical and physical proficiency.

“We utilised this international break to experiment with a novel approach for future adoption,” he said.

“Additionally, focusing on defensive strategies to endeavour to achieve equilibrium.” It does not imply that we are not effectively defending… City, Arsenal, and Liverpool possess players that exhibit physically robust attributes, but we too possess such qualities.
