According to a source, the autopsy indicates that tycoon Mike Lynch likely died of suffocation while aboard his yacht

An investigative source reported that Mike Lynch, a British tech magnate, died of suffocation after exhausting his oxygen supply. The source cited preliminary examinations conducted on Saturday following the recovery of Lynch’s body from the family yacht that capsized off the coast of Sicily last month.

On August 19, the British-flagged superyacht Bayesian capsized during a severe and sudden weather event off the port of Porticello, near Palermo, resulting in the deaths of Lynch, his daughter Hannah, 18, an onboard chef, and four guests.

The source informed Reuters that the initial results of Hannah Lynch’s body examinations, which were conducted on Saturday, were equivocal. The results excluded any traumas or wounds as the cause of death, but they left the possibility that she may have drowned or run out of oxygen.

The director of Palermo’s Fire Brigade stated last month that the bodies of the deceased, with the exception of the cook, were discovered in cabins on the left-hand side of the 56-meter (184-foot) vessel. The trapped passengers may have attempted to locate any remaining air bubbles in these areas.

Judiciary sources announced earlier this week that preliminary autopsy results for four additional victims—Morgan Stanley International Chairman Jonathan Bloomer, his wife Judith, lawyer Chris Morvillo, and his wife Neda—suggested that asphyxia was the probable cause of death.

Lynch’s wife, the captain of the yacht, and Lynch’s corporation, which owned the Bayesian, were among the fifteen individuals who survived.

On Saturday, the investigative source reported that the Canadian Antiguan onboard chef Recaldo Thomas perished by drowning, as per his initial examinations.

The source stated that additional forensic tests have been ordered for all the victims, and the results are anticipated in the coming weeks.

Naval experts have been perplexed by the sinking, as they believe that a vessel such as the Bayesian, which was constructed by the high-end yacht manufacturer Perini and is owned by The Italian Sea Group (TISGR.MI), should have been able to withstand the tempest and not have sunk as rapidly.
