Rafa Mir of Valencia is being held for a possible sexual assault

The Spanish Guardia Civil police have detained Valencia forward Rafa Mir on suspicion of sexual assault, the club announced on Tuesday.

A representative for the Guardia Civil said that a La Liga player was being held in Valencia on suspicion of sexually assaulting one lady, but they withheld the player’s identity.

Valencia announced in a statement that it will work with the legal system and that it was aware of the arrest. Commenting was not immediately possible from Mir’s representatives.

The 27-year-old Mir has previously played for Valencia, his boyhood team, on loan from Sevilla and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The story was first broken by the Cadena Ser radio station, which stated that Mir failed to show up for his team’s Tuesday workout.

According to the report, there has been another arrest made in relation to the incident.
