China and Nigeria establish a nuclear energy and economic agreement

According to a government spokesperson, Nigeria and China reached an agreement to fortify their cooperation in the areas of human resources development, nuclear energy, and the Belt and Road initiative following their leaders’ meeting on Tuesday.

According to data from Nigeria’s Debt Management office, China is the largest bilateral lender in Nigeria, with loans totaling $5 billion as of March 31.

Over the past half-century, both nations have preserved diplomatic relations. In 2018, they were fortified by the Belt and Road Initiative’s partnership between China and Nigeria.

The subsequent partnership has resulted in the delivery of significant infrastructure developments in Nigeria, including rail lines and a deep sea port.

“This comprehensive strategic partnership should result in robust development, stability, and security in the West African sub-region,” Bola Tinubu declared.

In Beijing this week, Nigeria’s Tinubu will participate in the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa, which the Chinese leader has described as an occasion to strengthen China-Africa relations. The summit will encompass 50 African nations.

“China and Nigeria, as major developing countries, strengthening strategic coordination, will inject fresh impetus to China-Africa relations in the new era and spearhead common progress among Global South countries,” the Chinese leader stated.

Tinubu visited the Huawei Research facility and obtained a commitment from Huawei to establish a joint solar PV test lab in Nigeria.

Additionally, an additional Chinese company has committed to the establishment of an assembly facility for electric tricycles and the provision of training to Nigerians in the fields of renewable energy development and technology.
