Cheptegei, a Ugandan marathon runner, burned after being sprayed with gasoline

Rebecca Cheptegei, a Ugandan marathon runner who participated in the Olympics in Paris last month, reportedly doused herself with gasoline by her lover, according to local media on Monday. This resulted in burns covering more than 75% of her body.

Following the incident on Sunday afternoon, Cheptegei is reportedly in critical condition at a hospital in Eldoret, Kenya, according to reports from both Kenyan and Ugandan media.

The Star newspaper was informed by Jeremiah Ole Kosiom, the commander of Trans Nzoia County Police, that Daniel Ndiema Marangach, Cheptegei’s lover, was also burned during the incident, which was reported to be a domestic argument.

When Cheptegei trains in Kenya, she lives at her Kenyan house. The 33-year-old finished 44th in Paris.

Police stated they were looking into it.
