The government of Ukraine has formally requested that the authorities in Mongolia detain Russian President Vladimir Putin based on an international arrest warrant

Ukraine has made a formal request to Mongolia, urging them to apprehend Russian President Vladimir Putin on the basis of an International Criminal Court warrant during his scheduled visit on September 3. However, the Kremlin has expressed no concern regarding this upcoming trip.

An arrest warrant was issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) in March of the previous year against Vladimir Putin. The accusation against him is the war crime of unlawfully deporting hundreds of children from Ukraine. The accusation has been dismissed by the Kremlin, stating that it is driven by political motives.

The warrant issued by the court requires the compliance of its 124 member states, which includes Mongolia, to apprehend Putin and extradite him to The Hague for prosecution in the event that he enters their jurisdiction.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has urged the Mongolian authorities to adhere to the obligatory international arrest warrant and proceed with the extradition of Putin to the International Criminal Court located in the Hague. This statement was made by the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry on the messaging platform Telegram.

In response to a question posed on Friday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov assured reporters that Moscow does not have any concerns regarding Mongolia’s membership in the ICC. A productive and engaging dialogue has been established with our counterparts from Mongolia.

When questioned about any discussions with Mongolian authorities regarding the ICC warrant, Peskov stated that the visit and all related aspects had been extensively discussed.
