According to Pope Francis, Earth is “sick” amid new warnings on climate change

Pope Francis issued an appeal to individuals worldwide on Friday to enhance environmental protection. The pontiff is anticipated to advocate for global action on climate change during his upcoming 12-day visit to Southeast Asia next week.

“If we were to measure the Earth’s temperature, it would indicate that it is experiencing a fever.” In a video message, the pontiff declared, “And it is sick.” “We must commit ourselves to … the protection of nature, changing our personal and community habits.”

Francis distributes a video message each month to disclose his prayer intentions for the relevant month. “For the cry of the Earth” is the objective for September.

On Monday, the 87-year-old leader of the global Catholic Church will depart for Singapore, East Timor, Papua New Guinea, and Indonesia.

Throughout his 11-year papacy, Francis has underscored the significance of environmental issues. The warming global climate poses a threat to each of the countries on his Sept. 2-13 tour, including the escalating sea levels, unpredictable and severe heat waves, and typhoons.

Francis stated in his video that climate change necessitated actions that were “not only ecological, but also social, economic, and political.”

“The ones suffering most from the consequences of these disasters are the poor, those who are forced to leave their homes because of floods, heat waves or drought,” the pontiff stated.
