Lukaku leaves Chelsea to join Napoli

Romelu Lukaku, a striker from Belgium, has joined Napoli from Chelsea, the Serie A team announced on Thursday.

Although neither club disclosed the transfer’s exact cost, the British media claimed Napoli paid 30 million pounds ($39.47 million) for the 31-year-old.

Lukaku has moved back to be with manager Antonio Conte, who guided him to success at Inter Milan from 2019 to 2021.

After spending 97.5 million pounds returning to Chelsea in 2021, Lukaku played two seasons on loan in Italy with AS Roma and Inter.

Following his 2011–14 stint at Chelsea, the Belgian’s 24 league goals enabled Conte’s Inter to win the Serie A title in 2021, which prompted Chelsea to decide to bring him back to Stamford Bridge.

Lukaku hasn’t played for Chelsea since May 2022, and his departure lines up with the midfielder Tino Anjorin’s three-year transfer to Serie A team Empoli.

$1 equals 0.7602 pounds.
