Liverpool signs a national from Italy; The Juventus player Chiesa

Federico Chiesa, an Italian forward, has signed a long-term contract with Liverpool, the two teams announced on Thursday.

Juventus stated that the 26-year-old’s contract with the Serie A team was scheduled to expire in 2025, and that the deal was for 12 million euros ($13.30 million) plus 3 million in add-ons.

After recovering from a major knee injury that kept him out of action for ten months in 2022, Chiesa made 37 appearances for Juventus in all competitions last season, tallying 10 goals and dishing out three assists.

Over the course of four seasons at Juventus, the winger—who can also play through the center—scored 32 goals in 131 games. In 2020, he was first loaned to the Turin-based team from Fiorentina.

“Being a player for Liverpool makes me so happy,” Chiesa declared in a statement. “When (sporting director) Richard Hughes called me and he said, ‘Do you want to join Liverpool?’ – and the coach (Arne Slot) called me – I said yes immediately because I know the history of this club, I know what it represents to the fans.”

Chiesa was benched for Juve’s first two league games under new manager Thiago Motta. His move to Anfield expands Slot’s already potent attacking options, which also included Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, and Luis Diaz.

“It’s a dream come true,” Chiesa stated on Instagram in a video. “When I hear the word Liverpool I think of trophies, victories and the great nights in the Champions League at Anfield.”

“I’m feeling quite emotional about it. I’m excited to hear “You’ll Never Walk Alone” sung by all 60,000 of the fans. I’ll do anything for the fans and this shirt. “Forza Liverpool.”

In 51 Italy caps, Chiesa has seven goals to his name. He participated in the European Championship this year and was a member of the team that won the Euro 2020 title.

He is Liverpool’s second acquisition of the off-season following the goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, who they agreed to buy for a reported 30 million pounds ($39.46 million) from Valencia. The Georgian is expected to join the team in time for the upcoming campaign.

One dollar is equivalent to 0.9020 euros.

$1 equals 0.7602 pounds.
