Englishman Westwood appointed as the new head coach of Hong Kong

Ashley Westwood, the former head coach of Afghanistan, has been announced as the new coach for Hong Kong by the Chinese territory’s football association on Wednesday.

Westwood, a former Manchester United trainee, has been appointed as the new coach, taking over from Norway’s Jorn Andersen. Andersen had led the team to their first Asian Cup finals since 1968 earlier this year.

With experience coaching various clubs in India and Malaysia, the 47-year-old Englishman is optimistic about guiding the team to victory in the upcoming Asian Cup, set to take place in Saudi Arabia in 2027.

“I have complete confidence in the quality in Hong Kong,” he stated. “I’ve played here before with my Indian sides, and I’ve observed the level of play.” I believe there are skilled players here.
