The White House has condemned the attack that resulted in the death of a safety adviser for Reuters in Ukraine

A National Security spokesperson stated in a post on X on Tuesday that the White House condemned a missile attack in Ukraine over the weekend that resulted in the death of a safety counsel for the news agency and the injury of Reuters journalists. The spokesperson also extended its condolences to Reuters.

“We strongly condemn this attack and offer our sincerest condolences to @Reuters for the loss of one of our own,” stated Sean Savett, spokesperson for the National Security Council.

The Hotel Sapphire in Kramatorsk was struck by a Russian Iskander, a ballistic missile capable of striking at a range of up to 500 km (310 miles), according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on Sunday.
Reuters was unable to independently confirm whether the missile that struck the hotel was launched by Russia or if the attack on the building was intentional.

Ryan Evans, a member of the Reuters team that was covering the conflict in Ukraine, was killed and two Reuters journalists were injured in a strike on a hotel in the eastern Ukrainian city, the news agency announced on Sunday. Evans was employed by the agency as a safety adviser.
