In the capital of Nigeria, Abuja, the Islamic Movement of Nigeria conducted an attack on Sunday that resulted in the deaths of two officers and the unconsciousness of three others.

Nigeria banned the Shi’ite group in 2019 following violent protests that demanded the release of its incarcerated leader.

In 2015, the Nigerian army accused the group of attempting to assassinate a former chief of army staff. In response, the group purportedly killed over 300 of its members. El Zakazy, the group’s commander, was incarcerated from 2015 to 2021.
