Hamas and Islamic Jihad have claimed responsibility for the bombing in Tel Aviv

Israeli police and the Shin Bet intelligence agency classified the bombing near a synagogue in Tel Aviv as a terrorist attack. The armed branches of Hamas and Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the incident on Monday.

The incident occurred late on Sunday in Israel’s commercial capital, where a man who was carrying the bomb was killed and a passerby was injured, according to police officers present at the site.

According to Israeli government spokesperson David Mencer, the individual was in possession of a backpack that contained explosives that were detonated “prior to his arrival at a more densely populated area.”

In a joint statement, the two Palestinian militant organizations declared that their “martyrdom operations” within Israel would resurface as long as the “occupation’s massacres and assassination policy” persist. An allusion to the July 31 murder of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran and Israel’s offensive in Gaza was intended.

Israel has not asserted or disputed responsibility for Haniyeh’s death in the Iranian capital.

Hamas militants invaded Israeli communities on October 7, 2017, and killed approximately 1,200 individuals and abducted approximately 250 hostages, according to Israeli estimates. This marked the commencement of the Gaza War.

The health authorities of the Gaza Strip have reported that Israel’s military campaign has resulted in the deaths of at least 40,000 individuals and the destruction of vast areas of the land.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Tel Aviv on Sunday to advocate for an armistice in Gaza to conclude the 10-month-old conflict between Israel and Hamas. The explosion that occurred in the city occurred approximately one hour later.

Due to concerns regarding an escalation in the broader region, there has been an elevated sense of urgency to negotiate a ceasefire agreement. After Haniyeh’s assassination, Iran has issued a threat to retaliate against Israel.
