The Dream files for dismissal in a court battle after slamming the claims of sexual assault made by the Protégé

The Dream, an R&B hitmaker, is currently in court to defend himself against the sexual assault allegations made against him by his erstwhile protégé, Chanaaz Mangroe. The singer-songwriter, who is renowned for his chart-topping songs, has formally submitted documents in an effort to have the litigation dismissed. He has characterized the allegations as baseless.

Desirée F. Moore, the attorney for The Dream, argued in the court filings that the lawsuit is faulty, referring to it as a “shotgun pleading” that lacks specific details against the vocalist. This is a critical reason why The Dream is advocating for the complete dismissal of the case.

Additionally, The Dream is advocating for the exclusion of his record label, Contra Paris, LLC, from the lawsuit, citing a lack of personal jurisdiction in California. The legal response also criticizes the complaint for allegedly employing “destructive” and “racial stereotypes” against The Dream, further complicating the matter.

Plaintiff devotes several pages to irrelevant gossip intended to harm Diamant’s children and impugn his marital history, unsubstantiated allegations of past violence (none of which resulted in any proceedings or findings against Diamant), false depictions of an absent father, and racist insinuations that Diamant is affiliated with a street gang, prior to the complaint raises a single relevant allegation, according to the filing.

The Dream’s legal team is also making an effort to invalidate the rape allegations, contending that rape is not a distinct civil cause of action under California law.

In a statement, Moore emphasized the problems with the lawsuit, stating, “Plaintiff’s complaint contains dozens of allegations that are utterly irrelevant to her sexual battery and sex trafficking claims and are, instead, designed solely to smear Diamant’s name and reputation.” In the absence of any evidence indicating that the plaintiff was involved in a “commercial sex act,” her claim for sex trafficking against Diamant must be dismissed.

For those who are not acquainted, the legal dispute commenced in June when Chanaaz Mangroe, The Dream’s erstwhile protégé, filed a lawsuit against him. Mangroe alleges that The Dream enticed her into a recording contract with the promise of collaborations with celebrities such as Rihanna and Beyoncé, only to subsequently exploit her for his own purposes, which she alleges included psychological abuse and violent sexual acts.
