Juventus prioritized Como over the transfer window, according to Motta

Manager Thiago Motta stated on Sunday that Juventus has a competitive squad despite the fact that they have a limited number of players available and have much work to do in the transfer market as they begin the Serie A season.

The absence of a league title for four seasons following a nine-year streak of victories compelled Juventus to implement significant changes. Motta succeeded Massimiliano Allegri as coach; however, they have yet to recruit the necessary players to contend for the Scudetto.

Motta’s squad remains a work in progress in advance of Monday’s home opener against promoted Como. Additionally, American midfielder Weston McKennie, who appeared to be on his way out of the club, may now be able to return.

Motta stated during a press conference that McKennie is a functional and beneficial player for our requirements.

“Only 11 players are eligible to participate in the game tomorrow, which will involve 19 players.” The maximum number of substitutions that I may make is five.

“We are in good shape, had good preparation, good training this week, with intensity, everything we want to see, and ready to face tomorrow’s game.”

Despite being extensively linked to players such as Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners and Fiorentina winger Nicolas Gonzalez, Juventus has been unable to acquire the players they were seeking at the conclusion of the previous season.

Riccardo Calafiori, a defender, was transferred to Arsenal, while Joshua Zirkzee, a Dutch striker who had previously played for Bologna under Motta, joined Manchester United. In addition, they must release Federico Chiesa, a forward who does not align with Motta’s objectives.

“We are engaged in the process of assembling a competitive squad, and our primary objective today is to deliver an exceptional performance against Como.” “The remainder will be revealed at a later time,” Motta stated.

“What is most crucial is that, despite your aversion to discussing the game excessively, we are committed to performing well, fulfilling our responsibilities, and achieving the desired outcome against Como tomorrow.”

“All the players who come tomorrow deserve to be there, whether they play from the start or come in during the game, they do so on merit.”

Motta, who led Bologna to fifth place and Champions League football last season, will not be backing down from his challenge against Como as he endeavors to establish a successful Juventus career.

“Life is like football, nothing is taken for granted, we have to deserve it and we have to focus on ourselves and on tomorrow’s game,” he pointed out.
“We are facing a team that has made it here from Serie B, they have won many games to get to this point, they have a lot of enthusiasm.”
