Alvarez is an ideal match for the Atleti DNA, according to Simeone

Diego Simeone, the manager of Atletico Madrid, expressed his admiration for the 24-year-old Argentine forward upon his recent acquisition, Julian Alvarez. He anticipates that Alvarez will achieve great things.

Simeone indicated that Alvarez could be available for the LaLiga opener against Villarreal on Monday, following his recent transfer from Manchester City, which was reported by British media to be valued at approximately 75 million euros ($82.7 million).

“Julian (Alvarez) is a player that we are all eager to witness and who will assist us in improving.” It was all very abrupt and rapid. He has only recently arrived and has been training for four days, but he has been adjusting quickly,” Simeone stated during a press conference on Sunday.

“However, I observe him with a great deal of enthusiasm, as I am aware of his origins and the direction he is taking.” His attributes are consistent with the Atleti DNA.

Simeone downplayed title expectations after investing more than 150 million euros in Alvarez, Robin Le Normand, the top scorer of LaLiga last season, and the defender who won the Spain Euro 2024.

Simeone stated that they still require additional players to remain competitive against a Real Madrid team that won the Champions League and LaLiga double last season before signing France captain Kylian Mbappe, as negotiations to acquire Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher are still ongoing.

“Real Madrid start the season as the best team and will have to prove it with the wonderful players they have while all the rest of us will be behind to compete against them,” Simeone indicated.

“We have not yet closed the squad; however, we must concentrate on tomorrow’s game and observe the team’s progress on a game-by-game basis.”

“Barcelona continue to have a very good team, Real continue to grow with players who are phenomenal but it’s clear for me that we have to think about ourselves.”
