The Nigerian army confiscates stolen crude and destroys 27 illicit refineries
A spokesperson for the Nigerian army announced on Wednesday that they have obliterated at least 27 illicit refining sites and confiscated stolen crude oil as a result of operations conducted this week on illegal oil bunkering sites in the Niger River delta.
In recent years, Nigeria, Africa’s largest energy producer, has experienced a significant decline in output and exports due to the widespread theft of oil and the sabotage of pipelines. This has resulted in a major financial crisis for the government and presented President Bola Tinubu with one of his most significant challenges.
Approximately 100,000 liters of stolen petroleum were confiscated during the inspections, according to Acting Army spokesperson Danjuma Jonah Danjuma. In addition, three vehicles were impounded containing petroleum that had been unlawfully refined.
According to a statement from Danjuma, the investigations are a component of continuous operations to combat crude theft.
