Flavor Flav Presents Jordan Chiles with a Bronze Clock Necklace in the Wake of Olympic Scoring Controversy: “Hit Me Up”

Chiles’ bronze medal in the gymnastics floor exercise final has been the subject of debate since it was awarded to her on August 5.

Jordan Chiles is supported by Flavor Flav.

On August 11, the 65-year-old rapper, who has emerged as a breakout hero of the 2024 Paris Olympics after enthusiastically supporting Team USA, announced on X (formerly Twitter) that he was prepared to assist Chiles in the aftermath of her bronze medal being revoked in the gymnastics floor exercise final.

“Ayyy @ChilesJordan, I am going to make you a BRONZE CLOCK NECKLACE that no one else has!” He shared a GIF of himself dancing at the Olympics while donning one of his signature clock necklaces, stating, “Hit me up my girl,,, I gotchu,!!!”

Flavor Flav is recognized for his signature clock necklaces and has worn one (or more) of them while supporting Team USA at the Paris Olympics. Chiles received his offer subsequent to the gymnastics competition’s scoring controversy, which resulted in the removal of her medal.

Chiles, 23, competed in the floor exercise final on Aug. 5 and ultimately won the bronze medal after her instructor, Cecile Landi of USA Gymnastics, submitted an inquiry to the judges regarding her score, which had initially placed her in fifth place. The inquiry was fruitful, demonstrating that the difficulty start value was incorrect. Consequently, she was promoted to third place.

Chiles’ score increased from 13.666 to 13.766, surpassing Romanian gymnast Ana Barbosu’s score of 13.700, who had been the presumptive recipient of the bronze medal when the scores were posted.

On August 11, a judge from the Court of Arbitration for Sport rendered a decision in favor of Barbosu and Sabrina Maneca-Voinea, another Romanian gymnast. The judge declared that Chiles would forfeit her medal and it would be transferred to Barbosu. After the competition, Maneca-Voinea’s score was also modified to 13.700 following an appeal on a deduction for stepping out of bounds. This resulted in the two Romanian gymnasts being tied. Nevertheless, the current verdict would formally assign Maneca-Voinea fourth place and Chiles fifth place.

A statement from the organization stated, “We are in communication with the NOC of Romania to discuss the reallocation ceremony and with USOPC regarding the return of the bronze medal.”

The IOC and the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) were informed of the CAS ruling in order to ascertain the appropriate method of medal redistribution.

The CAS determined that Landi’s inquiry was not made within the one-minute time limit allotted for inquiries. Nevertheless, USA Gymnastics has recently disclosed that they have video evidence that contradicts this assertion.

“USA Gymnastics on Sunday formally submitted a letter and video evidence to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, conclusively establishing that Head Coach Cecile Landi’s request to file an inquiry was submitted 47 seconds after the publishing of the score, within the 1-minute deadline required by FIG rule,” the organization said in a statement that was distributed to PEOPLE on Tuesday, Aug. 11.

According to the August 11 statement, USA Gymnastics has submitted a letter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) requesting that the “ruling be revised and Chiles’ bronze-medal score of 13.766 be reinstated.”

In order to ascertain the validity of the ruling, the CAS will proceed to evaluate the evidence submitted by USA Gymnastics.

Despite Chiles’ decision to withdraw from social media platforms, citing her “mental health,” numerous individuals have expressed their support for her, including her gymnastics teammates.

On August 10, Simone Biles, who secured the silver medal in the floor exercise, expressed her affection via Instagram Stories: “Sending you so much love, Jordan.” Hold your head high, Olympic champion! “We are devoted to you!”

Suni Lee and Jade Carey, who are also gymnasts, provided Chiles with assistance. Lee expressed his concern regarding the judges in a post, stating, “With all this discussion regarding the athlete, what about the judges?” Absolutely deplorable. This is truly appalling, and I am deeply saddened for Jordan. Jo, I have your back indefinitely. You possess all of my blossoms, and you will perpetually be an Olympic champion.

Carey included an Instagram Stories post that read, “Do not penalize the athlete for the error of another.” Jo, I am by your side throughout. You will eternally be an Olympic champion, and there is much to be proud of.
