Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon won her third consecutive Olympic gold in the 1500-meter final

Kipyegon establishes a new Olympic record time and becomes the first athlete in history to win three gold medals in a row in the 1500 meters.

With an incredible middle-distance running performance, Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon created history by becoming the first female to win three gold medals in the Olympic 1,500-meter competition.

At the Stade de France on Saturday, the 30-year-old champion from 2016 and 2020 delivered a tactical masterwork to win gold in a new Olympic record of 3 minutes 51.29 seconds.

Georgia Bell of the UK won bronze in 3:52.61, while Jessica Hull of Australia got silver in 3:52.56.

Kipyegon, the current world champion who is perhaps the best women’s middle-distance runner in history, put on yet another incredible performance.

Early in the race, Kipyegon had waited patiently for Gudaf Tsegay to establish the lead before catching up to the Ethiopian shortly after the first lap.

At the bell, Tsegay maintained his lead, but he lost ground soon to Kipyegon, who surged ahead.

With 200 meters remaining, Kipyegon launched herself towards home. Hull and Bell chased after her, but they didn’t appear to have the pace to overtake the Kenyan as she dashed to the finish line to complete her historic Olympic triple in 1,500 meters.

Along with three gold medals from the World Athletics Championships for the same distance, the Kenyan has also won three of them, the most recent one in Budapest in 2023.
