Olmo, a Spanish midfielder, joins Barcelona from Leipzig on a six-year contract

Dani Olmo, an offensive midfielder for Spain, signed a six-year contract to join La Liga powerhouse Barcelona from Bundesliga team RB Leipzig, the Spanish team said on Friday.

The 26-year-old Olmo signed a contract with Barca through June 2030, returning to the team where he spent seven years in the development academy before joining Dinamo Zagreb at the age of 16. Barca will begin their domestic season against Valencia next week.

Barca acknowledged that his buy-out clause was set at 500 million euros, even though they did not disclose the transfer cost, which has been estimated by the media to be about 55 million euros ($60 million).

The adaptable Olmo, who scored three goals and was one of six Spanish players on UEFA’s team of the tournament, was a key component of his nation’s victory in Euro 2024.

Olmo said earlier on Friday that, after more than four years, he was quitting the club. In 148 games across all competitions, he has contributed 29 goals and two German Cup victories to the squad.

A couple of cups and the Super Bowl are only a couple of the many wonderful occasions that I will never forget. Olmo said on social media, “Thank you RB Leipzig, you’ll always hold a special place in my heart.

One dollar is equivalent to 0.9155 euros.
