Nigeria’s oil production increases as security improves, according to the Navy Chief

Chief of Naval Staff Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla stated on Tuesday that Nigeria’s oil output has increased to between 1.6 million and 1.7 million barrels per day as a result of the government stepping up security to stop crude theft.

According to Ogalla, Nigeria, one of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) members, produced 1.2 million barrels of crude oil per day in February. The big oil company Shell (SHEL.L), opens a new tab, has left the nation.

The head of the Navy declared, “We have increased enforcement and surveillance in the oil producing areas.”

“The Nigerian Navy now maintains 12 ships at sea to safeguard oil production and stop oil theft. Thus far, we have apprehended more than 16 vessels.”

According to Ogalla, the police has closed down sales routes for petroleum products that have been unlawfully processed.

Heineken Lokpobiri, Nigeria’s oil minister, stated in May that the country could produce six million barrels of oil per day if it made sufficient investments in its energy industry.

He continued by saying that the cash needed to explore for and extract oil and gas was lacking in Nigeria and other oil-producing nations in Africa.
