Reggae legend Burning Spear 79 is making a 17-year comeback to Kenya
After weeks of doubt, two-time Grammy Award-winning reggae legend Burning Spear has reassured his Kenyan fans by confirming that he will play in Nairobi on October 12.
His supporters were concerned that the event would be canceled or postponed due to the Gen Z demonstrations.
As part of his One People Africa tour, which will take him to numerous African nations, the Jamaican celebrity will perform at Uhuru Park.
Known for his classic song “Marcus Garvey,” the Jamaican celebrity sang and assured everyone that everything was well in a recent Facebook video. He sang, “Praise Hallelujah.”
Spear continued:
“October 12, Kenya, I, man, will be present.” Don’t worry about yourself. What is Kenya worried about? Man on October 12th.
Fans who were anxiously anticipating his appearance received much-needed relief from this message.
Burning Spear will also be visiting South Africa and Zimbabwe as part of the One People Africa tour.
He has scheduled performances at Emperors Palace (The Park) in Johannesburg on October 19, the Glamis Arena in Harare on October 18, and Mhundi Wines Farm in Cape Town on October 20.
Following a Facebook speech to his 1.7 million followers in late June, Burning Spear made his statement.
He had expressed sympathy for his “brothers and sisters” in Kenya, but he had also expressed reservations about visiting the country in East Africa because of the anti-President William Ruto rallies that have been going on there since the beginning of June.
Following the announcement, fans took to social media to share their relief and delight.
