Brazil’s Lula hopes the United States elects the best candidate—Trump or a Democrat

Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, the president of Brazil, expressed on Monday his optimism that the American people will choose the finest candidate in November, regardless of whether it is a Democrat or Donald Trump, and that ties between the two countries will stay “civilized.”

“Whether it’s a Democratic candidate or Trump, our relationship will be a civilized relationship between two important countries that have a centuries-old diplomatic relationship that we want to maintain,” he told foreign media outlets. “We have important strategic partnerships with the United States,” he stated.

Lula expressed his “utmost respect” for U.S. President Joe Biden and said that the latter’s decision to withdraw his candidacy for reelection was a “personal decision”.
