50+ bodies found in the mud following a landslide in southern Ethiopia

Following two landslides in southern Ethiopia on Monday, at least 50 bodies were exhumed from the muck, according to a local official.

The Gofa district government spokeswoman for the South Ethiopia regional state, Kassahun Abayneh, stated, “There was a heavy rain yesterday night and some people died from a landslide.”

Locals and law enforcement officials convened at the location early on Monday in order to rescue individuals impacted by the initial landslide. Around 10:00 a.m. (0700 GMT) today, that is when the second landslide occurred, and everyone who were gathered there perished.”

According to the Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation (EBC), women, children, and local police were among the deceased, according to Meskir Mitku, the district general administrator of Gofa district in Southern Ethiopia.
