Modric’s Real Madrid contract is extended through 2025

Real Madrid announced on Wednesday that Croatian midfielder Luka Modric had agreed to a one-year contract extension, keeping him at the Bernabeu until 2025.

With Real Madrid last season, the 38-year-old Ballon d’Or winner from 2018 captured his sixth Champions League championship in addition to his fourth LaLiga triumph.

Modric’s contract ended at the end of the 2023–24 campaign, however while Real Madrid was celebrating their Champions League victory and raising their record of 15 European Cups, the Croatian star assured supporters he would be back the following year.

Since joining the Spanish powerhouses in 2012, Modric has raised 26 trophies, more than any other player with Real Madrid.

Particularly when his longtime midfield partner Toni Kroos, 34, announced his retirement at the end of the season, the experienced player’s retirement was almost universally anticipated.

Even when Croatia was eliminated in the group stage of the recently ended European Championship, Modric had no intention of hanging up his boots on the international front.

“I hope to play for eternity, but I think the day will come when I have to hang up my boots. “I don’t know how much longer I’ll be playing, but I’ll keep going,” Modric, a Croatian international with 178 caps, said.
