Due to a lack of aviation fuel, Mali encourages airlines to refuel elsewhere

According to its transport ministry, Mali is requesting planes to refuel elsewhere until next week since it is now unable to refuel commercial aircraft in its capital, Bamako, due to fuel shortages.

According to a ministry official Ould Mamouni, “there are a lot of flight operations these days and that has affected the fuel stock,” on Tuesday evening.
“This is to announce to companies that given the limited fuel stock, they will not be able to refuel in Bamako; they can consider obtaining supplies in neighboring countries before coming to Mali.”

In a letter obtained by Reuters late on Tuesday, the director general of the National Civil Aviation body of the West African nation requested that the regional air traffic control body ASECNA’s representative in Mali inform airlines of the action, which is scheduled to take effect from July 9 to July 15.

“I invite you to take the necessary steps to issue a notice to air users on the unavailability of Jet A1 fuel at President Modibo Keita-Senou International Airport,” he stated.

Airlines that offer service to Bamako include Ethiopian Airlines and Turkish Airlines.
