Five killed in a bombing in Pakistan, including a former senator

Five individuals, including a former senator, were murdered by a bomb explosion in northern Pakistan on Wednesday, according to police.

A remote-controlled bomb struck the senator’s vehicle when he was campaigning in the Bajur tribal sector near the Afghan border, according to police official Bakht Munir.

According to Anwarul Haq, another government official, it was an improvised explosive device.

Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the umbrella organization for Islamist and sectarian terrorists in Pakistan, denied any involvement.

Bajur is one of many tribal districts along the Afghan border. This area is ungoverned and has long served as a sanctuary for Islamist terrorists who operate both sides of the border.

A statement from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s office denounced the attack.
