Canada’s Buchanan undergoes surgery to reconstruct a fractured tibia
On Wednesday, Canada Soccer announced that Tajon Buchanan, a Canadian midfielder, underwent surgery in Fort Worth, Texas, to repair a fractured tibia that he sustained during training for the Copa America quarter-finals.
The 25-year-old Buchanan, who also represents Inter Milan in the Serie A, sustained the injury during a training session on Tuesday. The session was subsequently canceled after Buchanan was transported to an ambulance.
“We extend our best wishes to Tajon during his recovery process and anticipate his return to the field in the near future,” Canada Soccer stated in a statement.
Buchanan, who has been capped by Canada on 40 occasions, was present in all three of his country’s group-stage games at the Copa America, where Canada has reached the knockout stages in their tournament debut.
Canada’s record at the Copa America was 1-1-1, placing them in second place behind Argentina in Group A. They are scheduled to play against Venezuela in Arlington, Texas, on Friday.
