Bafokeng shaft strike, according to Impala Platinum, has concluded

South Africa’s Impala Platinum (IMPJ.J) announced on Wednesday that a strike at its Bafokeng operations had been resolved nearly a week after it commenced.

The work suspension, which commenced on June 27, was primarily centered on contractors at the North Shaft of Impala Bafokeng’s BRPM operation who were seeking permanent positions, according to the company.

“Following constructive engagement between the management team and employee representatives, the issues were resolved,” Impala reported in a press release.

“As a result, normal attendance levels were recorded at North Shaft from the morning shift today.”

Impala and its South African platinum group metal-producing peers, Anglo American Platinum (AMSJ.J) and Sibanye Stillwater (SSWJ.J), are currently confronting their most severe crisis in decades. In order to mitigate costs, they are eliminating thousands of positions following a significant decline in metal prices last year.
