Completed: Brighton signs a Gambian player

International Yankuba Minteh of the Gambia has joined Brighton & Hove Albion from Newcastle United, a rival English Premier League team.

The 19-year-old attacker and the Seagulls, who reportedly spent £30 million ($38 million), inked a contract that runs until June 2029.

Minteh scored 10 goals and provided six assists while playing on loan for Feyenoord in the Netherlands for the entire previous campaign.

He declared, “I’m feeling really happy about the move.” For me, Feyenoord was a wonderful experience. It was like a family, everyone loved me, the players, and the coaching staff,” Minteh stated on the Brighton website.

However, I have followed Brighton, a Premier League team. It’s a terrific club for young players, and I find it significant how the young players have developed here.

“I think moving to [another] Premier League club is a great thing.” Look where I am now, even though I didn’t play any games for Newcastle! I have the opportunity to play in the Premier League at Brighton.

Minteh, who turns 20 on July 22, has already earned seven caps and three goals for the Gambia, a nation he claims is ardently dedicated to the Premier League.

“In the Gambia, the Premier League is very big,” he continued. Everyone watches it, and everyone speaks about it. The entire nation, in my opinion, is pleased for me and has been since I played in Denmark.

“I’m thrilled to represent my country; it’s something I’ve always dreamed about since I was a young child.”
