Ukraine will soon receive F-16 deliveries from the Netherlands, the administration said

The outgoing Dutch government said on Monday that the Netherlands will soon provide Ukraine with the first of 24 F-16 fighter jets that were promised.

Defense Minister Kajsa Ollongren announced in a letter to parliament on Tuesday that the required permits to send the jets to Ukraine have been approved. This comes after months of coalition building following an election last year and before a cabinet transition.

For security considerations, she would not say how many planes were in the first batch or when they would land in Ukraine.

One of the main proponents of an international alliance to arm Ukraine with F-16s to bolster its air defenses against Russia has been the Netherlands.

F-16s were previously provided by the Dutch government to a training center in Romania, where Ukrainian pilots and ground crew are being trained to operate and maintain the aircraft during combat.

Ollongren stated in April that she anticipated the United States, Denmark, and the Netherlands to begin their promised supplies in a few months.
