At the ASCAP 2024 Rhythm & Soul Music Event, Usher, Victoria Monét, and Lil Baby were honored
At the Thursday event, the renowned rapper, Grammy-winning singer, and famous R&B musician were honored for their groundbreaking and important contributions to music and society.
On Thursday, June 27, Usher, Victoria Monét, and Lil Baby got together for a unique celebration.
The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) honored the diamond-certified R&B superstar, 45; the three-time Grammy-winning songstress, 35; and the renowned rapper, 29; for their outstanding musical accomplishments at the 2024 Rhythm & Soul Music event in Los Angeles.
According to a news statement, Usher was presented with the prestigious ASCAP Voice of the Culture Award, which is granted to individuals who “have had a major influence on music and culture.” He now shares the title alongside D-Nice, Swizz Beatz, and Timbaland.
As authors and artists, we should use flawless language. Recognize that every word you speak has an empowering intention. It’s an affirmation turned into a fact. And don’t make assumptions if you think anything can happen or if you believe what you see. Converse with one another. In his speech, the singer urged everyone to support one another. “I would also to say, last but not least, do your best, do your best, offer your best and great things will happen.”
In the meantime, Monét received the remarkable ASCAP Vanguard Award, which had previously gone to Beastie Boys, Janelle Monáe, and Migos, in recognition of her groundbreaking work that is “helping to shape the future of music.”
She confessed as she opened her speech. “I had to do some research since I was curious about the true meaning of vanguard. Additionally, trailblazers, innovators, pioneers, and pathfinders are terms linked to vanguard. It implies taking the initiative and leading.
Monét went on, “My talented crew is always by my side, supporting me even though I do see myself as a leader, a conglomerate of my ideas, vision, and moves. Together, we have been at the forefront of this battle for success, methodically turning every skeptic into a believer with her diligence and perseverance. We fire. For the stars, not at eye level. To transition from being the underdog to the front-runner requires a very strong team. Thus, many thanks.”
Additionally, Lil Baby was given the ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Songwriter of the Year Award for this year. With wins for “Forever,” “Freestyle,” and “Heyy” from his third studio album, It’s Only Me, the diamond-certified rapper had a great year.
Usher, Victoria Monét, and Lil Baby all photographed together at the event with their own trophies to commemorate their victories.
Leon Thomas, who co-wrote SZA’s popular song “Snooze,” which won the ASCAP R&B/Hip-Hop and Rap Song of the Year, was also there. The song achieved chart history when it topped the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart for 30 weeks, the longest run of any song in the list’s history. Additionally, for the whole year 2023, it was the sole song to chart on the Billboard Hot 100.

Late in May, ASCAP revealed Usher and Monét as its 2024 honorees, showcasing the two as two of the best musicians whose work combines art and culture.
Paul Williams, President and Chairman of the ASCAP Board, stated in a statement, “Usher has owned the R&B crown for decades, captivating listeners with his incomparable vocal chops and songs that span the R&B and pop genres.” “His humanitarian impact is equally undeniable as his unmatched charisma and performances in the R&B world.”
Williams went on to compliment Monét, adding, “Victoria Monét has proven herself not only as a thriving artist and ASCAP member who continues to break barriers, but also as an illuminating songwriter.” Her ability, perseverance, and admirable work ethic have enabled her to win numerous accolades as a singer and songwriter.”
On Sunday, June 30, Monét and Usher will carry on their joyful week at the 2024 BET Awards, where the latter will be honored with a special musical tribute and the much-coveted Lifetime Achievement Award. In addition, the former is scheduled to make her main stage debut after winning two Grammy awards in a row in February.
This year, the eight-time Grammy Award winner for Confessions and the singer-songwriter of “Alright” are also nominated for numerous BET Awards, including video and album of the year.
