Megan Thee Stallion is praised by Taraji P. Henson for overcoming “all of the adversity” and saying, “I’m proud of you” (exclusive)

“Go, Meg. Proceed, Meg. I understand you. Ahead of the 2024 BET Awards, Henson, who previously starred in Megan’s “Body” music video, declares to PEOPLE, “I love you.”

Taraji P. Henson is a friend and supporter of Megan Thee Stallion.

The Oscar-nominated actress, 53, recently attended the “WAP” rapper’s Hot Girl Summer Tour stop in Los Angeles on June 21 — more than three years after participating in her “Body” music video. This was ahead of her impending hosting stint at the 2024 BET Awards.

“I had never seen her perform live, headlining, on her own stage before. Henson tells PEOPLE, “She’s amazing.” She has demonstrated the ability to overcome all adversities. She is amazing. Megan, you have my undying love and pride. By the way, that’s my baby girl.”

Megan, 29, has been acquainted with the Color Purple actress for a few years at least, as seen by her appearance in the “Body” music video with Blac Chyna, Jordyn Woods, Asian Da Brat, and Tabria Majors. Henson, who enjoys witnessing the success of other women, has found great satisfaction in following the Grammy winner’s career growth ever since.

“You know what, auntie? I’m a girl who likes girls. “I support women in anything they do,” she declares. “My name is Cheerleader. You should act like an older; I’m the one in the front who is the loudest, encouraging them.”

“Stay close to these babies! I won’t be another barrier for another woman because, you know, life is difficult enough for women out here. Thus, I’m a champion,” Henson continues. “I work well in a team. I’m a girl who likes girls. Proceed, Meg. Proceed, Meg. I understand you. I cherish you.”

Henson will host the BET Awards for the third time this year, but if things had gone differently for the actors in 2023, she would have already achieved that achievement.

“The [SAG and WGA] strike happened last year just as I was getting ready to host. I’m quite looking forward to this year. It’s going to be a fantastic show,” she declares. It’s the biggest night in culture. The performances are going to astound us all. Guys, we have Will Smith. I can’t wait to see what tricks he has in store.”

“Usher is getting his flowers, and I feel incredibly privileged to be hosting the event where he does. “I’m just happy for him,” Henson goes on. “It’s a proud moment for the culture.”

The Golden Globe winner is mum about what fans may anticipate from the awards ceremony, which will stream live on BET from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on June 30. However, she is hinting at something spectacular.

“I’m showing off yet another skill that many of you are unaware I possess. Not everyone is aware of it, but some of you are,” Henson says. “The world will know.”
