Keefe D, Tupac’s Murder Suspect, Is Supposed to Be Released from Prison

Despite a major development in the Tupac murder case last year, the suspect is allegedly ready to be released.

Duane Davis, better known by his stage name Keefe D, was freed from police custody on Friday after raising sufficient funds to cover his $75,000 bond. He will now await his trial, which is scheduled to start in November. Davis is anticipated to appear in court again the following week, when Judge Carli Kenny will specify the parameters of his release.

Davis’s court-appointed counsel filed a request for leniency earlier this year, claiming that their client “poses no danger” given his present health. It’s significant to remember that in 2023, when Davis was deemed “dangerous” for bail, a similar plea was made and turned down. Prosecutors emphasized Davis’s history of gang affiliation and his admission to Tupac’s murder as evidence for this allegation.

At this time, the 61-year-old ex-gang member is the sole one accused of being responsible for the rapper’s death in California. Davis has maintained his innocence throughout the legal process, although he has acknowledged that he planned the shooting that happened more than 20 years ago.

Davis’s attorney claimed, “The veracity of the interview content was never verified.” “The interviews and book were done for financial gain and entertainment value, capitalizing on a situation in which [LAPD officers] and others had already made money.”

Prosecutors in Nevada claim that Tupac got into a fight with Orlando Anderson, the nephew of Davis, the night of the event. Although the specifics of Tupac’s murder are still unknown, the rapper tragically passed away in 1996 following his attendance at a boxing bout between Mike Tyson and himself.
