Last-minute winner saves Mozambique

In the last phases of their CAF 2026 World Cup qualifying match at Stade El Abdi on Monday night, Guinea was defeated 1-0 by Mozambique.

Following four matches, the Mambas’ result ensured that they were level on points with Algeria. After all games, both teams had nine points. In the Group G rankings, Algeria continues to hold first place, followed by Mozambique.

Guinea dominated the most of the first half of the encounter, however things did not quite go as planned as they were unable to register a point during that period.

Even though there was still no goal until the very last second, Mozambique appeared to be the team with greater desire to score.

During stoppage time, the Mambas were granted a penalty following a foul in the box. Geny Catamo took the penalty and executed it with elegance.

With six total points, Guinea is tied with Uganda and Botswana. Having failed to win any games during their qualification campaign, Somalia was still in last place.
