Although they began before us, Kenyans have not surpassed us: Sultan Idris

A famous Tanzanian comedian and netizen, Idris Sultan, has clarified the current concept of the Art industry in Tanzania being outpaced by the Art industry in Kenya because Kenya has more international work than Tanzania, to which his answer was ‘Kind off’.

Idris has explained the concept by making it clear that to a certain extent Kenya has moved but has not yet abandoned the Tanzanian art industry, he said this when asked by The Source, why Kenya has so many movies on Netflix and the ‘Showmax’ channel on the African side Why are they more than us in the East?

“They have not surpassed us today. Unfortunately, they have surpassed us a little in the past and that past has determined their today and it was the language (English) and not in surpassing us perhaps in speaking, but they have used it in their artistic works, and in Kenya they do not speak only English or only Kiswahili , but they mix Kiswahili and English, this helps them to be similar to other Nations. Now when you enter international platforms like Netflix and Showmax when you come to create content, you want to put content that many people in different countries can understand and that’s where language helps’ said Idris

Where he has also emphasized that despite Kenyans having done great things in art before Tanzania, now the situation is different because the size of talents, artists, investments and talents in Tanzania is ahead of Kenya.

“So Kenyans, let’s just say they used to beat us, but right now if you say put us on the same scale and look at where they have surpassed us in the arts in general, starting with skills, talents and creativity, it is clear that we are very much above them in the arts in general and not in music not just the film alone,” he added.
