Nicki Minaj’s Allegations of Racial Bias in Arrest Are Rejected by Dutch Police
Dutch police have refuted Nicki Minaj’s claim that her recent arrest was the result of racial profiling.
The NOS stated that the police said in a statement released on Friday, May 30, that the arrest of the “Starships” rapper was a routine process and was not motivated by her race or notoriety.
An Amsterdam police department official told the newspaper, “It’s unfortunate if she felt that way.” When we discovered many joints in her suitcase, we detained her. After consulting with the public prosecutor and paying a fine, she was freed four hours later. I think everything went off without a hitch. She should not have played that card.
“We just do our job, and it is protocol to search luggage and arrest a person when we find drugs,” a Dutch police spokeswoman told the BBC as well. Approximately 5:30 p.m. saw the arrest, and 9:30 p.m. saw the release. We support an organization run by professionals that, in all cases, treats everyone fairly.
When Nicki Minaj was on her way to Manchester for her Pink Friday 2 Tour, she was arrested in Amsterdam on May 25 on suspicion of “possessing soft drugs.”
She posted a live video of her detention to social media, displaying a Royal Netherlands Marechaussee member telling her that she was being arrested for “carrying drugs.”
The Young Money rapper expressed her disapproval of the “disgusting” treatment she endured during her arrest to fans on the livestream site Stationhead. She also hinted that race may have played a part in the event.
She spoke of her arrest-related cancellation of her gig in Manchester, UK, saying, “I don’t know when was the last time I felt that low.”
Furthermore, you should be aware that something malicious is being done to you just because you are a self-assured person of a different race. Out of all the guys present, there was only one woman, and I could see she had a heart. I wouldn’t want that treatment on anyone; it was simply abhorrent.
“No,” she said in response to a question on the stream about whether she was treated like a “human” by Dutch officials. I was still in the building when they issued the press statement announcing my release. Perhaps they were attempting damage management; I’m not sure.
