Julen Lopetegui is hired by West Ham to take David Moyes’ place as manager

West Ham has named Julen Lopetegui as its new head coach. David Moyes left his position at the London Stadium “by mutual consent” at the end of the Premier League season, and Lopetegui took over.

Tim Steidten, the technical director, who will have more influence over hiring, will collaborate closely with the 57-year-old. In 2019, Moyes was reappointed with the understanding that he would have significant influence over transactions and hiring.

“West Ham is delighted to announce the appointment of Julen Lopetegui as the Club’s new men’s Head Coach,” read a statement on the team’s official website. On July 1st, the former coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers, Porto, Real Madrid, Sevilla, and Spain will formally start working with the Hammers.

Speaking to West Ham TV, Lopetegui underlined his excitement about building on the solid foundations already in place and adding his own style to London Stadium. He is looking forward to getting to work with the players when they return to pre-season training in July.

First and foremost, Lopetegui expressed his happiness at being able to contribute to the future of such a large club. “We’ll work to make the Club uniquely ours.

We, in my opinion, have an excellent platform. Naturally, I believe that the past few years have been excellent for building this foundation, but as a coach, my goal is always to improve, set greater and higher goals, and inspire and develop the squad and players so that they can compete—after all, that is what football is all about. We have high hopes for this.
