If re-elected, Biden plans to make an official trip to Africa in February
If Joe Biden is re-elected, he has stated that he intends to travel to Africa on official business in February.
President of the United States Joe Biden has declared that he will travel to Africa on official business in February, following the election in November. The declaration, which conveys confidence in his ability to defeat Republican opponent Donald Trump in a reelection, came as Biden hosted Kenyan President William Ruto for a state supper and two days of talks at the White House.
“I intend to travel in February following my reelection,” Biden declared, indicating that the visit would play a major role in his post-election plans.
Senior administration sources disclosed that trade, debt relief, and the future of global concerns including the circumstances in Sudan, Haiti, and Ukraine will be among the many subjects of conversation between Biden and Ruto.
During a meeting with Angolan President Joao Lourenco in late November, Biden made vague references to a possible visit to Angola in addition to his scheduled visit to Kenya. However, no precise date was mentioned.
Jake Sullivan, the national security adviser, reaffirmed Joe Biden’s plan to travel to Africa and expressed the president’s excitement for the journey without making any official announcement.
Biden has come under fire for not traveling to Africa while serving as president, even in spite of the emphasis on the continent’s importance in world affairs. Nonetheless, the administration’s continued involvement with Africa is demonstrated by the more than two dozen senior officials who have visited different African countries, including Vice President Kamala Harris and Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen.
