A lawsuit claims that Sean “Diddy” Combs paid $50,000 for hotel footage showing Cassie being assaulted

According to Cassie’s lawsuit, which was filed in November, Sean “Diddy” Combs paid $50,000 to get hotel security tape showing them fighting in 2016. The video, which CNN acquired and released on May 17, shows the event that took place at the InterContinental Hotel in Los Angeles.

The footage that has recently surfaced was released one day after Cassie’s case against Combs was settled in November of last year. Combs is accused of paying the InterContinental Hotel $50,000 for the hallway video that depicts him physically abusing Cassie during a March 2016 altercation, according to Cassie’s shocking civil lawsuit.

The disturbing surveillance footage shows Combs, now 54, chasing Cassie, now 37, down the hallway while she is wearing a towel. Cassie is seen leaving the hotel room and heading toward an elevator. Combs approaches her, throws her on the ground, and snatches her by the neck. Combs turns to kick Cassie as she lies immobile, then snatches her purse and suitcase.

Combs kicks Cassie hard again as she lies on the ground, grabbing her by her hoodie and pulling her along the corridor for a short while before releasing her and leaving with her stuff. After a few while, Combs comes back to seize Cassie next to the elevator. He then sits down in a nearby chair, picks something up off a table, and throws it violently at her. After that, Combs turns back to face Cassie, but not before an elevator door opens and someone appears to step out.

When PEOPLE reached out to Diddy for comment on the video, a representative did not get back to them right away. According to a statement provided to PEOPLE by Cassie’s lawyer, Douglas H. Wigdor, “The gut-wrenching video has only further confirmed the disturbing and predatory behavior of Mr. Combs.” The bravery and tenacity displayed by Ms. Ventura in speaking up and bringing this to light are beyond words.

“This hotel is no longer under IHG management, and we do not have access to prior incident records or footage,” IHG Hotels said in a different statement that was shared with PEOPLE in response to the recently discovered footage.

PEOPLE was able to receive Cassie’s complaint, which detailed the hotel incident in great detail. According to the allegations, Combs got very drunk during a “freak off” at the InterContinental Hotel in Century City, Los Angeles, and hit Cassie in the face, giving her a black eye. The complaint also stated that Cassie attempted to escape the hotel room after Combs went to sleep. But Combs woke up, started yelling at her, trailed after her into the hallway, and hurled glass vases in her direction.

After figuring out how to access to the lobby and the elevator, Cassie called a cab to her flat. Nevertheless, she went back to the hotel to apologize because she was afraid of Combs’ response to her flight. She was told to get back in a taxi by hotel security personnel, who claimed to have seen the video tape that showed Combs assaulting her and hurling glass at her in the hallway. Combs allegedly paid $50,000 for that evening’s hallway security footage, according to the lawsuit.

In her lawsuit, Cassie listed a number of charges against Combs, referring to their connection from 2007 to 2018 as a “vicious cycle of abuse” and “violence,” as well as rape and sex trafficking.

Combs and Cassie announced that they had settled the claims to their “mutual satisfaction” the day after the lawsuit was filed. “I have chosen to settle this dispute amicably on terms over which I have some degree of control,” Cassie said. I express my gratitude to my family, fans, and attorneys for their steadfast support. “We have decided to resolve this matter amicably,” Combs continued. My best wishes are with Cassie and her family. Love.

In an explanation of Combs’ position, his lawyer Ben Brafman told PEOPLE that “settling a lawsuit is in no way an admission of wrongdoing.” The settlement does not contradict Mr. Combs’ categorically stated denial of the allegations. He’s glad they were able to come to an amicable agreement and hopes the best for Ms. Ventura.

On December 6, 2023, Combs, who has insisted he is innocent, made his initial public statement over the accusations, saying, “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.” I have been sitting quietly for the past few weeks, seeing attempts to discredit me, my legacy, and my character. I’ve been the target of horrifying accusations from people hoping to make quick cash.

Combs resurfaced his public speaking after federal agents raided his residences in March, posting a statement on Instagram on May 15 that said, “Time tells truth.” As he concluded the post, he said, “LOVE 🖤💫✨⚡️.”
