The American ambassador in Tanzania wants to increase the value of minerals in the country

Dar es Salaam. The American ambassador in the country, Michael Battle, has said that Tanzania has the right to ask any country that mines minerals in its land to bring productivity by adding value.

Battle said this on May 16, 2024 during the 15th anniversary of the American Pula company engaged in the mining of kinyve minerals in Lindi region.

“The government has the opportunity not to ask or beg, but to ask the companies in the mining sector to increase the value of the mined minerals before exporting them to get their value,” he emphasized.

Battle said the mining sector in Tanzania is important for the future of the world due to the presence of kinyme and other species. “These important minerals that Tanzania is blessed with are important for the future of climate change.”

Minister of Mines, Antony Mavunde who attended the event supported what was said by Ambassador Battle and emphasized that the Government’s position is that all strategic minerals must be added to the value of the country so that Tanzanians can benefit.

Among the benefits that Mavunde explained are jobs resulting from value-added activities, saying that selling raw materials abroad is eliminating jobs for Tanzanians and reducing the country’s income.

“The world is moving towards the use of clean energy by 2050, the only way is to increase the use of energy that is said to be friendly to the environment. Tanzania has raw materials of that type of minerals in abundance,” said Mavunde.

Mavunde said Tanzania has many companies that mine strategic minerals, and a large percentage have already started mining,

“The first goal is to attract investors in strategic minerals and also to ensure that our country benefits,” he said and added that every company that comes to the country must have a plan to add value.
